Prof. Rüdiger Bohn studied piano and conducting at the conservatories of Cologne and Düsseldorf. He attended masterclasses with Leonard Bernstein, Sergiu Celibidache and John Eliot Gardiner and began his professional career as a répétiteur and conductor at leading European theatres, including La Monnaie in Brussels, Theater Basel and Theater Lübeck.
He has conducted major symphony orchestras and ensembles in Europe and Asia. His international engagements have included the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Korean Symphony Orchestra and Kobe Chamber Orchestra, where he served for many years as Principal Guest Conductor. He has also worked with the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, Duisburg Philharmonic, Klangforum Wien, Collegium Novum Zürich and Ensemble Musikfabrik. His appearances include major festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, Munich Biennale, musica viva and the Darmstadt International Summer Course for New Music.
Rüdiger Bohn combines extensive orchestral experience with a strong commitment to teaching. Since 2005, he has been Professor of Conducting at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. Since 2003, he has also served as Musical Director of the European Workshop for Contemporary Music. He regularly gives international conducting masterclasses, including courses in Vilnius, Brescia, Sofia, Seoul and Düsseldorf.
